Blood Type B Antibodies

There are four major blood groups determined by the presence or absence of two antigens a and b on the surface of red blood cells. However blood type b plasma can only be given to type o and b recipients.

Blood type b antibodies. This discovery is a tremendous progress in clinical transfusion practice to prevent fatal danger by abo incompatible blood transfusion. The mature b cells called plasma cells secrete millions of antibodies into the bloodstream and lymphatic system. The plasma contains both anti a and anti b antibodies but the surface of the red blood cells does not contain any a or b antigens.

When an antigen binds to the b cell surface it stimulates the b cell to divide and mature into a group of identical cells called a clone. Abo blood group is determined by testing the person s rbcs with anti a and anti b and observing for agglutination known as forward or front type and testing the plasma with group a 1 and group b rbcs known as reverse or back type. If the blood is antigen group o the circulating antibodies will be both anti a and anti b.

Blood group a contains antibody against blood group b in serum and vice versa while blood group o contains no a b antigen but both their antibodies in serum. Return to rh system. Rh factor is an additional marker in the blood.

Blood type b doesn t carry the b antibody making blood type b group to be compatible in receiving plasma from groups b and ab. Blood type b doesn t carry the b antibody making blood type b group to be compatible in receiving plasma from groups b and ab. Blood types are indicated by both the abo and rh antigens present.

Rh factor is an additional marker in the blood. Your blood type matches whatever antibody caused agglutination. The antibodies are mostly igm and can activate complement which in conjunction with the high density of abo.

If the blood is antigen group b the circulating plasma antibody will be anti a. Has no rh factor. If the blood is antigen group a then the circulating plasma antibody will be anti b.

This can be classified as either rh positive or rh negative. However blood type b plasma can only be given to type o and b recipients. If your blood agglutinates in anti b you have the b antigen and are type b.

A type ab cannot receive blood from either type a or type b because a type ab requires a perfectly compatible blood type with both a and b antigens which are found only in ab blood and no antibodies for said antigens type a has only antigen a and type b has only antigen b and both type a and type b have antibodies for antigens b and a. Antibodies are produced by specialized white blood cells called b lymphocytes or b cells. This can be classified as either rh positive or rh negative.

Individuals with type ab can receive any abo blood type. Karl landsteiner discovered that natural blood type antibodies occur in opposites. In addition to the a and b antigens there is a protein called the rh factor which can be either present or absent creating the 8 most common blood types a a b b o o ab ab.
